COERR Mae Hong Son Supported the Tree Planting on World Environment Day

   World Environment Day falls on 5 June every year. This year, COERR and concerned organizations organized Tree Planting ceremony to celebrate the World Environment Day in 2 refugee camps: Ban Mai Nai Soi Refugee Camp in Mae Hong Son’s Muang District and Ban Mae Surin Camp in Khun Yuam District. The purpose is to promote awareness of environment preservation in order to keep the healthy environment and natural resources to the next generation in the future. Number of participants are 370 consisting of 198 female and 172 male in Ban Mai Nai Soi; and 375 consisting of 190 female and 185 male in Ban Mae Surin.

 

The opening ceremony has various representatives from the government and private sectors make speeches on the importance of environment preservation and needs to plant more trees especially on this specific day as trees are the natural resources that have commercial value as well as protection benefit.

The Camp Commander provides seedlings to refugees to grow in 2 areas, i.e. High School Section 14 and the forest area near Section 15 and 16.

Refugee students are planting Vetiver Grass and trees to stabilize steep slopes to prevent soil erosion

At Ban Mae Surin camp, refugee children and COERR are planting Terminalia catappa seedlings to mark the World Environment Day

After the refugee leader made a speech at the opening ceremony, refugees, both children and adults were marching for awareness raising campaign for environmental protection.
